11. FAB Fridays Return to the Boulodrome! Petanque in the 'Village' Style!!
Not everyone can find free time on a weekend, what with work commitments, finishing uni assignment and keeping in touch with friends, but why not finish off the week by heading to the 'Boulodrome' and enjoy 'village style' petanque in the cool of a summer evening! Excellent lighting, great music, wonderful atmosphere and nice people!
Boules Artistes holds an informal 4 round competition starting at 7:00 p.m. (be there before 6:30) and finish before 11:00. Perfect! Format is timed games with partners drawn 'out of the hat' each round. (You will play with 4 different partners) Experienced players will be paired with less experienced players.
Cost is only $8.00 and includes snacks. Prizes too!!
No experience necessary! We will teach you how to play, provide equipment and encourage you to learn and improve!
FAB Fridays will be at Canterbury Bowling Club, Close St Canterbury and then when our new ground at Kensington is complete they will alternate. The club is only 8 kilometres from the city and centrally placed for much of Sydney. There is plenty of parking and Canterbury Station is only minutes away.
Important! FAB Fridays will be most Fridays across the summer but not all. Sometimes we change the format, too. Please contact us and we will add you to our regular mailing list and send you updates as to when and where.
Please contact me if you plan on coming.

Ailleurs dans le monde de la francophonie...

à l'Alliance Française de Sydney:
Thursday 16 October
Debate: The Fifth Republic at 50
-  In 1958, the 'first couple' of France were Charles and Yvonne de Gaulle; 50 years later, it's Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni. One can hardly imagine a bigger difference in presentation, personality and the personification of politics. How has the political class changed in the last 50 years?
One of General de Gaulle's ambitions was to reestablish and maintain French 'grandeur' in world affairs. How much 'grandeur' does France has in culture, politics, economics and diplomacy 50 years later?
In the 1950s, Paris was the capital of the nouveau roman and the nouvelle vague in cinema. Is Paris still a cultural and intellectual capital?
- The constitution of 1958 was made sur mesure for de Gaulle and his supporters. Does France now need a Sixth Republic?
The debate will be conducted by Liz Rechniewski (Senior Lecturer in French Studies, University of Sydney); Denise Fisher (Former Australian Consul- General, Nouméa); Aaron Ridgway (Journalist, Canberra Times); Matthew Graves (Lecturer, Université de Provence); Matthew Krasovitsky (Student, University of Sydney; former student, Sciences Po, Paris); Caitlin Tobin (Student, University of Sydney; former student, Sciences Po, Paris) and the moderator will be Robert Aldrich (Professor of European History, University of Sydney).
AF Gallery 6.30pm - 8pm All welcome!
No access to the building after 7pm
