THE FUN PETANQUE CHALLENGE
23rd of November
Canterbury Boulodrome

Now some of you may be a bit afraid of the 'C' word (Competition that
is) but you shouldn't be! It is our experience that people enjoy the
added stimulus of friendly competition but also a competition can be
more social. If we play 'social' games, it is more difficult to get
people to circulate. Groups form and tend to just keep playing
together. If all games ended at the same time then we could split
groups up but that doesn't tend to happen that way. In a competition,
when you finish a game against one team you play another. (Usually, in
a competition we play 4 games). Also, in a casual situation people
arrive at different times and it is harder to get them into a game as
most people are already playing! In a competition everyone must be
there at the start and stay till the end. See what I mean?
The Boules Artistes will provide the equipment and refresher courses
and run the competition! There will be great prizes! We will fire up
the espresso machine and have great coffee and cakes! We will start at
1:30 and finish at around 5:00. Cost will only be $10! We will hold
the FUN PETANQUE CHALLENGE at the Boulodrome! Canterbury Bowling Club,
Close St Canterbury
Right next to Canterbury Train Station (just 15mins from Central), the
445 bus stops here (Balmain, Leichhardt, Petersham, Dulwich Hill thru
to Canterbury)

MARC-ANTOINE CHARPENTIER: DAVID ET JONATHAS
1st week of December
City Recital Hall, Angel Place

Pinchgut Opera will present this glorious French baroque opera at the
City Recital Hall, Angel Place Sydney on Wed 3 Dec, Sat 6 Dec, Monday
8 Dec at 7.30pm and Sunday 7 Dec at 5pm. Swedish tenor Anders Dahlin
will sing David and Sara Macliver Jonathas. The chorus will be
Cantillation and the Orchestra of the Antipodes, under conductor
Antony Walker, will play on instruments of the French baroque. It will
be sung in French with English surtitles. Pinchgut Opera is renowned
for its beautiful productions of rarely performed works. First
performed in Paris in 1688 at the Jesuit Theatre, this gripping story
of friendship and war unfolds through Charpentier's powerfully
emotional music.
We would like the French speaking community to know of this unique
opportunity to experience one of the greatest musical delights of
French baroque period.
