WEEK 1 SEMESTER 1 NEWS!

Bonjour les amis!

Thank you to everyone who came by our O-week stall and joined – we signed up over 400 members! If you were a member last year but didn’t sign up at O-week, don’t forget to renew your membership in 2010! Come along and buy membership ($4) at any of our events. Also, don’t forget to join us on facebook! Our profile link is http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=-3&id=774585192#!/frenchsoc.usyd?ref=mf and our group link is http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=-3&id=774585192#!/group.php?gid=15140045812.

We have an exciting semester planned with FrenchSoc, so make sure you mark our events on your calendars. Don’t forget that conversation groups (Monday-Thurday, 1 p.m., Manning backcourt) and study groups (Thursdays, 2-3 p.m., Isabel Fidler in Manning) will be starting in week two!

Here’s what’s coming up in the next week:

This week with FrenchSoc

International Students Welcome

[Tues 2 March, 4 p.m., Fair Trade Coffee Company, 33 Glebe Pt Road, Glebe]

Come along to the Fair Trade Coffee Co in Glebe to welcome all our international students to Sydney and to the French Society. International students (new or returning!) who are FrenchSoc members will receive a free welcome coffee – and don’t worry if you didn’t manage to get to our stall in O-week, you can become a member ($4) when you arrive!

Start of Semester French Picnic

[Wed 3rd March, 1 p.m., Union Square (Lawns between Manning and Physics Rd – look for our flag!)]

FREE for Access and $5 for non-Access. We will be meeting in Union Square on campus (rather than the previously-advertised Victoria Park), so join us for lunch! We’ll provide baguettes, croissants, cheese, and other French food, so come along get to know your fellow FrenchSoc members.

French Film Festival

We’re selling tickets in week one to Neuilly Sa Mère (Sun 7th March 1:45 p.m.) and Les Herbes Folles (Wed 10th March 6:45 p.m.) – if you’ve already bought a ticket from us, make sure you come to one of our events in week one and get a refund because we’ve decided to subsidise our members’ tickets even further! Tickets now cost $10 for Access card holders and $14 for non-Access card holders, but we only have a limited number. Come to any of our events in week one to buy a ticket to either film.

Lunch at Le Pain Quotidien

[Sunday 7th March, 12:30 p.m., Le Pain Quotidien, 54 Norton Street, Leichhardt]

Join up with FrenchSoc for lunch at Le Pain Quotidien before we go to see Neuilly Sa Mère. Feel free to join us even if you’re not going to see the film – it will be a great way to unwind after the first week of classes and get to know other FrenchSoc members!

FrenchSoc Outing to Neuilly Sa Mère, French Film Festival

[Sunday 7th March, 1:45 p.m., Palace Norton Cinemas, 99 Norton St, Leichardt]

Meet us for lunch at Le Pain Quotidien in Leichardt before the film or at the cinema itself. If you’re joining us at the cinema, look for our executives wearing FrenchSoc t-shirts. Don’t forget to buy discounted student tickets from us at any of our events in week one: $10 for Access members, $14 non-Access.
