Conversation groups
[1-2pm, Monday-Thursday, Manning Backcourt.]
Conversation groups will be running again this week, Monday through Thursday from 1-2pm at the Manning backcourt (i.e. behind Manning). Enjoy a FREE coffee courtesy of Frenchsoc, have a chat and practice your French with other students (local and international!) Look out for the French flag and some of our friendly exec in our navy Frenchsoc t-shirts. If it’s raining don’t forget to check inside!
Study group
[2-3pm, Monday 19th October, Isabel Fidler Room (Top floor of Manning)]
Come along to our study group again this Monday to do some homework or study for those upcoming exams. It’s a great opportunity to stop procrastinating and get some help from more advanced students, with the added bonus a free coffee, courtesy of FrenchSoc!
Silent Film Festival
Australia’s Silent Film Festival is continuing on October 24 & 25 at the State Library of NSW, Macquarie Street, Sydney. The festival will feature Georges Méliès: First Wizard of Cinema (France 1896-1912) in its closing session on the 25th. French Cuisine Sampling Night
Join Frenchsoc as we explore some of France’s culinary delights, artisan-made wine, bread, sausage, and cheese, available right here at Sydney Uni. Details are TBA but it will be a fantastic evening and a great way to take a break from studying and enjoy French culture, so keep an eye out for further details!
SUDS Presents: A Flea in Her Ear

Synopsis:
Raymonde thinks Victor is cheating on her at the Frisky Puss Hotel. Tournel is secretly in love with Raymonde. Victor thinks he has a secret admirer. Lucienne tries to catch Victor cheating on Raymonde. Lucienne's husband, a gun-toting Spaniard, thinks she is cheating on him with Victor. Camille is boning the cook and has a cleft palate: no one ever understands what he is saying. The hotel porter, Poche, looks exactly like Victor.

To celebrate the Alliance Française’s return to 257 Clarence St, their famous 'Fromages et Vins' evening is back! Diane, Pierre, and the team will take you on a Tour de France of artisan cheeses matched with divine wines. UniBoules Pétanque 2009
[12:30 pm, Sunday 29th October, Canterbury Bowling Club]
UniBoules Pétanque is on again! It will be a fun day with nibbles, aperitifs, and prizes! No experience is necessary, and if you’ve never played before you’ll be taught how to play before the competition starts. Paris: City of Dreams
[7:30 pm on SBS, Friday 17th, 23rd, & 30th.]
Art historian and passionate Parisian, Sandrine Voillet, uncovers some of the hidden delights of the City of Lights in this three-part series. This UK documentary is in both English and French, with English subtitles, and is showing on SBS at 7:30pm on Fridays 17th, 23rd, & 30th.
Synopsis:
In the first episode, Sandrine reveals how Paris battled through turmoil and trauma to become the city of dreams. In Blood and Chocolate, the second episode, she reveals the secret history and hidden delights of Paris, exploring winemaking, chocolate, cafés and some of the city's landmarks. In the third episode, Bohemian Rhapsody, Sandrine takes a look beyond the glittering surface of Paris, at the underground worlds and movements that defined the city in the 20th century.
Volunteers needed for French Library at the Alliance Française de Sydney
Practise your French and gain access to a wide selection of DVDs, CDs and books free-of-charge by volunteering to help out in our French Library, with the possibility of free advanced French and conversation courses! Volunteers work alongside French-speaking staff and have ample opportunity to communicate with our French-speaking members and students.
